Biography


Mr. Pól Stewart, CEng MIMarEST MIMechE

A Chartered Engineer sits on the ISO working group for Reliability Engineering in the Oil & Gas industry, served an apprenticeship building marine engines in the world renowned JG Kincaid on the river Clyde before joining the Merchant Navy, circumnavigating the globe and graduating from Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. Started working in offshore oil & gas in 1993 and has worked extensively in operations and management in both drilling & production for a wide variety of operators around the world. Speaks Norwegian and his native English, albeit with a strong Glaswegian accent and is passionate about performance improvements and reliability.

 

Pól is also an experienced and qualified Project Manager (PRINCE2), conversant and experienced in the areas of Risk Management, Performance Improvements, Planning and Change Management. This rare combination of skills has enabled him to design from first principles and develop IntegrityPRO, Enkelt’s proprietary Integrated Operation & Maintenance Quality Management System.

 

 Commenced a career as an apprentice Marine Fitter manufacturing diesel engines and has evolved to become a Chartered Engineer and Professional Operations Consultant. He is committed to working safely, experienced in both Drilling & Production fields of the Oil & Gas industry where he has, for over twenty years operating experience as a Rig Mechanic, Maintenance Supervisor, Technical Superintendent, Maintenance Manager and Deputy Asset Manager.

 

 In his current role he has provided the leadership and vision for the maintenance recovery of an FPSO which had not operated for 2 years and is now delivering 30,000 bopd at 95% uptime, reducing maintenance backlog from 48,000 hours to 12,000 in part due to new Risk Based Maintenance Approach developed by myself and employing the “Pit Stop Philosophy” to shutdowns and the introduction of IntegrityPRO.

He has gained vast experience of roles offshore and onshore in the fields of Maintenance, Operations and Integrity Management on FPSO’s, Fixed Platforms, Deepwater Semis and Jack-Ups. Operating worldwide, I have enjoyed success in managing teams large and small and also have experience in the use of and design of maintenance strategies and assurance activities in both SAP and Maximo. Prior to this he also served with the Merchant Navy as a Marine Engineer.   

Other areas of interest include Reliability where he is a member of the ISO14224 working group (Standard relating to the collection and transfer of reliability data) working with Reliability Engineers from around the world on the review and further development of this standard on behalf of International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) and International Standards Organisation. 

 

His Project experience includes time as both Project Manager and Engineer in shipyard construction, yard stays, rig upgrades and platform reactivation programmes. He has proven to have a keen eye for budget and project control, permit to work system, development and interpretation of work packs while providing an effective interface between Asset Management, Vendors, Commissioning Teams and Contractors.

 

As an O&M Consultant he has found his previous experience and understanding of the offshore environment and appreciation of business objectives puts him in a unique position, one that enables him to build credibility and relationships quickly when dealing with clients, crews and peers. His skills are safety and business oriented and considerate of people. He has shown he is equally capable and confident in his communication and presentation skills regardless of location or audience.

 

 

Pól’s technical education started as an apprentice at his local Technical College, was reinforced at the Nautical College in Glasgow and continues to this day. As a consultant and manager he promotes the principles of Process Safety including “Early Intervention, Risk Management, Defect Elimination, Continuous Improvement, Management of Change, Empowerment within Limits, Positive Reinforcement, Rewarding with Responsibility and Confronting Problem Issues”.
